PlateRanks doesn’t wait on a restaurant to type up its own menu. If a place doesn’t have one yet, any signed-in diner can add it by snapping a photo of the menu, uploading a screenshot, or dropping in a PDF. We read the dishes off it for you.

That upload happens once. After that the menu is there for every person who walks into that restaurant after you, and everyone can start rating plates on it. Add a menu and you’ve done the whole city a favor.

  • A photo, a screenshot, or a PDF. No typing dishes in one at a time.
  • One time, for everybody. Once it’s up it stays up, and the next diner just picks their plate and rates it.
  • Menus are what make reviews possible. You rate a specific dish, so the dish has to exist first.
  • Menus change, so you can refresh one. If a menu looks stale, anyone can re-upload it and bring it current.
  • Owners take it from there. When a restaurant claims its page it takes over its own menu, and the ratings you already left still count.

Why the scores hold up

A rating system is only worth as much as the things it refuses to do.

One rave can’t crown a dish

Scores are weighted by how much evidence sits behind them and how recent it is. A dish with four reviews doesn’t outrank one with forty on enthusiasm alone.

Restaurants can’t delete a review

An owner can claim their page and reply. They can’t edit or remove what somebody actually experienced, and emptying a menu doesn’t erase the ratings on it.

Money never buys rank

Anything sponsored is labeled as sponsored, every time. Paid placement can buy reach here. It doesn’t buy a better score.

You decide what’s public

Pick a username and keep your real name to the people you choose. Nothing about your account gets shared for you.
